Health & Fitness (PE)

We at Thurgood Marshall Middle School believe that there are a variety of ways that a well-designed PE program can have a profoundly powerful impact on the life of middle school kids. Our goal at Thurgood Marshall is to achieve this every day with every student.

  • Each class begins with a few minutes of warm-up jogging, followed by small amounts of stretching, strength work, agility drills, and then running drills and sprinting. This all takes about 12 to 15 minutes

  • We strive to vary the exercise focus throughout each week to ensure that all major muscle groups are developed in a balanced way.

  • After daily exercises, we move in to our sports and games. We want to ensure that all kids can successfully learn the basic skills of each sport so they have the best chance to feel confident enough to enjoy participating in that sport for the rest of their lives.

  • We especially try to focus on the skills in each sport that can transfer to other sports and to life in general.
